RSHE

Relationships, Sex and Health Education

What is RSHE?

RSHE is Relationships, Sex Education and Health Education. It is a statutory requirement for all schools in England to teach RSHE.

The purpose of the RSHE curriculum is to provide all pupils with opportunities to:

  • Develop confidence and responsibility and make the most of their abilities
  • Prepare to play an active role as citizens through developing skills for living and valuing themselves and respecting others
  • Develop a healthy lifestyle
  • Contribute to their community and the wider world and becoming morally and socially responsible
  • Develop good relationships and respect the differences between people

Our RSHE programme

The content of the RSHE curriculum is taught through a series of dedicated RSHE ½ days (2 per Jigsaw theme), supported by RSHE led projects, assemblies (whole school and year group), theme days, visiting speakers and additional sessions for the sex education elements of the programme in Years 5 and 6. We also support and take part in national events including Children’s Mental Health Week, Anti-Bulling Week and Safer Internet Day.

Why JIGSAW?

At Malmesbury Park Primary Academy School we use ‘JIGSAW – the mindfulness approach to PSHE’, to deliver our RSHE curriculum.

“Jigsaw holds children at its heart, and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world.

With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health,Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant RSHE within a whole-school approach.Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentrationandfocus.”

We are confident that the Jigsaw Programme covers all aspects of Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education in an age-appropriate way.
